The holidays in Spain are very important part of our culture. In fact, Spain has more festivals than any other country in the world. This is because each village has its own period of festivities. The festivities are held in honor of the town's patron, usually a saint or a virgin and therefore, are closely related to religion. For example, the patron saint of Gran Canaria is the Virgen del Pino, and the patron of Tenerife is the Virgen de la Candelaria.
The most important are food festivals, folk festivals, religious rites and processions and fireworks. With respect to food, many people held large Facilities for all the neighbors. I, for example, once I went to eat a paella for 5000 people in the village square. The festivals are dances with live music where people go to dance, eat, drink and a flirt. Processions are religious rite in which the statues were removed from churches to the streets followed by the more devout neighbors. At night they burn many fireworks of all colors and shapes.
